Investigating the Effect of Self-Care Education on Medical adherence and Self-Efficacy in Patients with Glaucoma referring to Tehran University of Medical Sciences’ Hospital

Abstract


Background :Unpredictability and chronic nature of the disease, glaucoma, Affects the quality of life and self-efficacy of patients.our main Purpose in this Research is Investigating the Effect of Self-Care Education on medical adherence and Self-Efficacy in Patients with glaucoma referring to the selected hospital of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (2017).

 Materials and Methods:  The present study is Before & After Clinical Trial with Pre - Post Test design and no control group. The statistical population of this study included all patients with glaucoma referred to the selected hospital of Tehran University of Medical Sciences. A total of 30 patients with glaucoma were selected by simple random sampling. for examination group ,6 sessions of self-care education (45-60 minutes each session) were performed with 3 days intervals according to the protocol and booklet prepared. the data collection tool was self-efficacy and medical adherence questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 22, descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation) and dependent t-test.in this study, all ethical issues were observed and the authors of the research did not report any conflicts of interest.

Results: The findings showed that the value of t obtained from self-care education, for medical adherence variables (3.74) and self-efficacy (5.7) in patients with glaucoma, it is significant (P <0.05).

Conclusion: Self-care education as an evidence-based approach, low cost and effective, has a significant role in increasing the self-efficacy and drug compliance of patients with glaucoma.
